Topic: Geocities closing; PSO blast from the past
started by: Swift
Posted by Swift on Wed Oct. 07 2009,2:58I'm aware this isn't really site news, but seeing how this will grab the few people still coming to the Village and that it concerns the Phantasy Star Online old guard I thought screw it.
As most of you may know, long running website < Geocities is closing down. > For those who weren't around in the late 90s and early 2000s, the likes of it and FortuneCity and Tripod were the most popular places for hosting sites. And what young people did with them at the time was to make fan-sites.
And one particular site there that will be dissappearing when Yahoo pulls the plug will be < my old Phantasy Star Online site > entitled 'Swift_PSO' or 'Swift's Home'. Thankfully, I remembered I had it with enough time to share it again with you guys as well as take as many screenshots as possible and grab all the assets back.
Anyone remember it?
I want to draw your attention particularly to the < 'PSO Friends' > page, where I spoke about all my bestest buddies at the time like Juno, Mickey, LHG and now long-lost ones such as Li Mei/Ein, Edge/Denny and Demon (Remember him?! Ahh memories!).
Check out how I described Mick lol (this was when we'd migrated to IV after the great PSOquest culling):
Also, < my Guestbook > (remember when they were cool? lol) was signed my a lot of those/you guys including Weaseal, Owl, Goku and Isaac (just ignore the first few pages of bot ad entries lol).
As well as a bunch of old snapshots (I used to be called the camera man of PSO lol), old sigs and avatars and wallpapers that might get you nostalgic, there is also a link to 'Angelic Daemons', a long-defunct site Weaseal and I used to be part of before a massive arguement erupted between all of the owners, where Weaseal declared Gundam Wing Endless Waltz the greatest movie of all-time. Those were the days.
I thought I'd share < that > with you guys one last time before Geocities goes down on October 26th. My advice to you is to check back before the shut down date in case you too had some time capsule-like gems up there.
Also, I miss PSO and the huge, reliable community we once had.
Posted by mickeyfmann on Wed Oct. 07 2009,3:20Wow, I was just opening up my browser and the first thing i noticed when the site loaded was that my avatar wasn't there!
This isn't really site news but you're right definitely worth posting here. I actually didn't know that they were going to shut this down, guess that leaves angelfire. I myself never hosted with them but over the years there were many sites out there that I visited regularly and remember fondly. Swift you're little site is one of them, I loved the snapshots and just reading over your captions makes me nostalgic.
It will be missed, and I too miss the fun that we used to have in these virtual halls. Something that I'm now struggling to get back. I've been working on the site hard core for about 2 weeks now, I'm hoping that we can bring this back and I plan to go all out for it.
Posted by vietmai111 on Thur Oct. 08 2009,1:00whoa it's been such a long time since i've thought about PSO!! can't believe its been around 5-6 years.
hahaha just thinking about all the crazy times on PSO brings back such good memories.
thank you swift for bringing up your website again. it's been great to see you and everyone else here again.
Posted by Juno on Thur Oct. 08 2009,3:37Wow, I was 13 o.o... It really doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Those were some really good times.

Posted by Jesusaur on Thur Oct. 08 2009,2:14Wow awesome.
I always remember having to give Demon a heads up when me and my friends wanted to travel through Vega 1, and I remember when I first met Edge during the Quest battle tournament and always used to play Episode 3 with him. He was a great guy.
Posted by mickeyfmann on Thur Oct. 08 2009,2:32Ah yes Denny, and who could forget ARGH!!!
Wonder what the Dutchman's been up to?
Posted by Faerun on Fri Oct. 09 2009,2:17wow, i think it might recall that site XD

No worries bro. Can't believe you still had your eye on the Village though. So many people have vanished and not even let us know how they've been doing. Heck, I can't even remember the last time I saw Bhaji and Ann post here (apparently it was last October according to board records).
Also, if you go to PSOquest.com it is no longer a registered site, so it seems Feugan, Nataku and the rest's elite community no longer exists there.
PSOworld is still going though. Boo!
Posted by Weaseal on Tue Oct. 13 2009,4:01wow...just seeing the old banner for A/D is awesome...shame the site 404's now...I'd love to see it again...
Posted by Owl on Wed Oct. 14 2009,7:21Wow.. An old post.
Haha.. I can't even believe you still remembered me. :P
Posted by Jesusaur on Wed Oct. 14 2009,7:27Owlybabes?
Posted by Owl on Wed Oct. 14 2009,7:28Hello Jesus.
I see we've become what seems to be a dinosaur now?
Posted by Jesusaur on Wed Oct. 14 2009,7:36Yeah dude. I evolved at Level 16. Next I'll be a cave man.
Great to see you again!

I've got most of the assets from the site on my PC (I did create all the art except the chibi designs), you can see a bunch of them in a more extensive rememberance of Geocities < at my blog. >
Posted by lionheartghost on Fri Nov. 13 2009,5:09Haha, PSO = GRANDEST OF THE GRAND times. I still listen to the music once in a while, rushing me back to 2004-2005 when we all had our hangouts.
LOL, no joke either Swift, even after PSO ended for everyone I typed "Geocities.com/swift_pso" (LUCKY it was easy to remember, I hate when I can't remember a web address) a couple times just see it.

Haha, even I couldn't remember the address for it or that it really even existed until I heard the news. Glad it could provide some use.
But its gone now, Geocities is in the ground and it kind of feels like those times are completley gone now. With the Village in this graveyard state all we seem to have left is memories.
Posted by mickeyfmann on Mon Nov. 16 2009,1:54Graveyard state? Things have definitely been better but i think we've had more action on here in the past few weeks than we've had in months
Posted by mickeyfmann on Wed Nov. 18 2009,1:37Swift did you withdraw the site or did they shut you down? I just remember them saying that it would be several months before they shut down existing sites, wondering if they're moving up their time schedule
Posted by LavisFiend on Sat Jan. 23 2010,10:41*sigh PSO....
So many memories. So many memoriessss.........
