I saw the interview with Mike Shinoda on Fuse's "Daily Download" yesterday, and here's the lowdown.  Unsurprisingly, Jay-Z is the executive producer of his new solo rap album.  I'm not sure whether or not it's entitled "For Minor" or "The Rising Tied", but here's a statement from my source: The Linkin Park member has since taken heed, recruiting Jay-Z as executive producer for the Fort Minor album, The Rising Tied, off his Machine Shop imprint.

This is my source:  http://murry.tblog.com/

"Doing all the production on Collision Course was definitely something that got me thinking," Shinoda told elite members of hip-hop's online press yesterday afternoon (April13). "Then the more people I played [my own material for], the more I heard people saying, 'Let me get on the track; I want to do a song with you and you need to put this on a record.' It became less and less of a hobby thing, and more and more of a serious record -- to the point where once I played it for guys like Common, Black Thought from the Roots and Jay-Z, then everybody said look you need to do this!"......"Jay is not performing on [the album]," Shinoda shared. "I did not want to put him in that position. I just wanted to have respect for his retirement to be honest, but he's executive producing the record and is with me every step of the way basically."

Shinoda also revealed that he played every instrument fans will hear on the impending album, except for the strings and the efforts from the recruited choir. In addition, he also produced all of the tracks. The five tracks heard are already a head start, but currently Shinoda and his team are in the process of cutting down 20 songs to 15 or 14 to make sure the sound set-forth is a breath of fresh air in the game.

"The reason why we started Linkin Park was because we were waiting for the sound to happen and it never happened," Shinoda explained with intent. "We decided to make it ourselves; that's how Fort Minor came about as well. I don't know how other people are going to take it, and that's fine because I'm not necessarily making it for them. First and foremost, it's for me and my fans and the people that's been waiting for something different. I love hip-hop and I love what that thing that everyone is doing, but at the same time I'd like there to be more variety."

What Mike Shinoda explained about the 2 titles "Fort Minor" and "The Rising Tied" is something along these lines:
Fort Minor is somewhat of an oxymoron, "Fort being the strong, heavy, almost militant side of the label's music, and "Minor" represents the softer, sadder, calm side of it.  "The Rising Tied" represents the people who share the same taste for this music, and I forgot why they are "Rising"

I wasn't originally gonna get this, but now I think I might.  It sounds like this is going to sound really good, and out of respect for Mike Shinoda as a very skilled musical artist.  As awesome and kick-@$$ Linkin Park is, I think Mike Shinoda will make a good solo artist, unlike some.  I just hope this doesn't spell out the end for Linkin Park. :Oo

It better not spell the end of LP. Darn any thoughts that involve that.

As for Mike's new album, hope it does well I guess. It better not lead to the end of LP though, they still have lots to do before a necessary dissolve.

I just think of it as Shinoda doing a 'side-project' instead of actually going solo. Lots of guys have done side-projects like the singer of Slipknot doing a side-project with Stone Sour. But then again Jason Newsted of Metallica did a side-project with a band called Echobrain and the other guys from Metallica were unhappy with it. Hopefully this won't bring LP down. But as for Shinoda's album, I hope it does well.

Well, I haven't heard anything on Collision Course, but judging by his rhymes on other LP albums, I think it'll blow ppl away.

Yeah, his rhymes are so freakin pro. Like "Forgotten" from Hybrid Theory has probably the best rhymes and lines I've heard from him and the rest of LP.

I totally agree, the only other white rapper that I can compare to is P.O.D.'s frontman, Sonny Sandoval. His rhymes are hardcore too. :rock

And I also thought there was a little too much rap on Meteora, I guess that's why it didn't appeal to me as much as Hybrid Theory did.

Hope Mike gets all the rap out of his system with this rap album, I don't think we need LP going too hip-hop and having a band member quit LP like Wes Borland did to Limp Bizkit.  Wes Borland rocks! :rock
